WE ARE SEEKING
Team Gilbert has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated professional to fill the position of Counselor. The purpose of the Youth and Family Counselor position is to engender a higher quality of life to a diverse clientele population by providing exceptional mental and behavioral health services as a licensed clinician practicing in an outpatient counseling facility within the Gilbert Police Department. Recipients of these services include court ordered adult and juvenile offenders on diversion or probation, individuals or families experiencing a crisis or traumatic event, and victims of a crime who may be vulnerable, disenfranchised, or experiencing psycho-social stressors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide 24/7 on-call crisis response within the community of Gilbert for a one-week shift that cycles through every 6 weeks. On-call status requires counselors to render crisis intervention and stabilization services to victims of a traumatic event or who have lost a loved one which can include giving death notifications to next of kin. On-call services also include triaging citizens who call or walk in the office seeking mental or behavioral health assistance.
  • Perform individual therapy sessions using the Solution Focused Therapy modality. Create treatment plans and establish goals and interventions using evidenced based practices for clients experiencing psychosocial stressors and other maladaptive thoughts and behaviors. Ensure all clinical documentation is inputted into the electronical medical record and discharge recommendations are provided once therapy services conclude.
  • Complete court ordered screenings in accordance with Arizona statute guidelines (A.A.C. Title 9, chapter 20, article 1 & 2) with adult defendants on diversion or probation who are mandated to do court ordered counseling for misdemeanor charges. Screenings require the counselor to administer and interpret a clinical assessment tool (such as the MAST, SASSI, Mortimer Filkens, etc) to determine appropriate treatment and refer clients to approved treatment agencies to complete counseling within the categories of substance abuse, domestic violence, anger management, and mental health.
  • Facilitate youth diversion programs by completing intake assessments with juvenile offenders and their parents to ascertain appropriate diversion requirements and interventions that target the incorrigible behaviors. Run therapeutic youth groups using cognitive behavioral therapy principles to promote behavior modification and conduct follow up appointments to determine compliance satisfaction.

    • Master's degree in social work or counseling
    • 5 years of experience in conducting clinical screenings and assessments, understanding mental health disorders and providing therapy using evidence-based modalities (such as CBT, DBT, Solution Focused, etc.) and working with individuals in crisis. Criminal justice background a plus.
    • Possessing clinical knowledge and experience working with individuals with substance abuse disorders and also the dynamics of domestic violence as it relates to both the victim and offender.
    • Independent LCSW or LPC license from the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners
    • A valid Arizona driver's license
    • Top candidates for the position will possess a positive attitude and the organizational skills needed to keep pace with a substantial work load. They will work well in a team environment and show a lifelong commitment to continuing education.
    • Must be available to work days and evenings, Monday through Thursday and be available for 24/7 On-Call shifts that generally run for a one week period every 4-6 weeks.This position is an At-Will position and is FLSA Exempt - ineligible for overtime compensation.

      The starting pay for this position will be dependent upon the qualifications of experience and education.
